As we move into 2009, I would like to wish everyone a Happy New Year! While the country as a whole hopes that 2009 will be a better year than its predecessor, I believe that Manchester still has much to be thankful for as we look forward to the year ahead. Throughout the past year, we have witnessed an economic downturn that has affected each and every one of us, from the shaky auto industry to the murky situation on Wall Street. However, here in Manchester we continue to see positive growth in our city that will carry on through 2009.

 

            While markets across the country felt the ups and downs of this past year, here in Manchester we have once again proven ourselves of resilient stock. We have weathered the storms, both literally and figuratively, and have come into this new year with a sense of excitement and assurance for the year ahead. I am confident that Manchester will continue to thrive in 2009, and am looking forward to tackling the challenges that await us.

 

            I am excited for the prospect of what awaits in 2009, and hope that you are as well. As we have seen in the past, when we come together as a community, we can achieve and succeed and better our city. I once again wish you a Happy New Year and look forward to continuing to serve as your mayor throughout this year, and perhaps into the future.
