This is my first attempt at blogging. I don't consider myself to be a proficient writer but maybe this will help. I'd like to use this space to chronicle some of the computer issues I run into on a daily basis and keep track of the newer viruses and malware I encounter. The way I search for malware on a computer is to examine all running programs. There are several utilities that make this easier to do and the more experience you have using the tools, the more proficient you can become at identifying processes that shouldn't be on your computer. For the past couple of years I've primarily used hijackthis. This is a great tool that identifies all running programs and Browser helper objects on your computer. It also identifies the programs that misdirect your web searches and takes you to sites you didn't intend to visit. Sound familiar? I'll plan to spend a little more time on hijackthis in future postss. Another great tool is something I've been spending more time with called process explorer by sysinternals. This is another free, very powerful program that identifies all running programs and helps you to understand the associated files running along with the process and how the programs run. Sysinternals provides a suite of free programs that can be helpful to troubleshoot memory problems, speed issues and network difficulties. The two I'm mainly focused on are process explorer as previously mentioned and startups that lets you examine all files, processes and drivers that start up each time you boot your computer. With the above mentioned tools, malware doesn't stand a chance! Please feel free to ask any questions and visit my web site at www.optimumpcwork.com
